Issues in Kroonstad:
- The RA wrote a letter to the municipality challenging various actions by the Municipality which, in the opinion of the RA, constitute fraud, dishonesty and maladministration. A question has been asked why the municipality has made payment to the ANC of R26 000 and the municipal manager has been asked to state if these payments have to do with service delivery. There are payments to what appears to be a soccer team (almost R3million!), the Women’s League and other organizations that appear to have nothing to do with the municipality. The RA is demanding answers from the municipality. To date, no response has been received.
- The RA sent photographs of the derelict sewage works to the local Water and Forestry and Agricultural Ministries to show the state of utter breakdown. The NTU is encouraging the local residents of Kroonstad to take over the management of the sewage works, as it is clear that the municipality cannot do so.
